UPDF Troops Complete 30km Route March Ahead Of Inter-Force Drill Competition

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 1 Infantry Division conducted a 30-kilometre route march from its headquarters in Kakiri to Kayunga Kumbuzi in Wakiso District as part of efforts to maintain combat readiness and prepare for the forthcoming Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Inter-Force Drill Competition.

Addressing soldiers, the Commander of the 1 Infantry Division, Brigadier Fred Mwesigye, urged personnel to make physical fitness a continuous priority rather than limiting it to organised exercises.

He reminded the troops that maintaining good health and physical fitness is a personal responsibility, noting that regular exercise is essential for every soldier.

“If you want to remain a relevant soldier, you have to look after your body,” Brig Mwesigye said.

He explained that the route march forms part of the military drills initiated by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to enhance combat readiness and assess the physical fitness of UPDF personnel.

The route march was attended by the Deputy Commander of the 1 Infantry Division, Colonel Michael Walaka Hyeroba, as well as senior and junior officers of the division.
