UPDF 3 Infantry Division Holds Command Handover for 1 Usalama And 403 Brigades

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has conducted command handover ceremonies for 1 Usalama and 403 Brigades.

At 1 Usalama Brigade, command was handed over from Colonel Adnan Kaale Seiko, the outgoing Caretaker Commander, to Colonel Charles Mukasa Kayemba, the incoming Brigade Commander.

The ceremony was presided over by the 3 Infantry Division Commander, Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma Karate, who commended Col Adnan for his exemplary leadership and for maintaining the brigade’s operational readiness during his tenure.

Maj Gen Sserunkuma tasked officers and personnel of the brigade to uphold discipline, cohesion, and civil-military cooperation, describing the values as key force multipliers in fulfilling the UPDF’s constitutional mandate within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

In his remarks, Col Adnan said the security situation in Kapelebyong District and the wider Teso sub-region remains stable, providing a conducive environment for socio-economic development.

He attributed the achievements to strong civil-military relations between the UPDF, local leaders, and communities, which have enhanced information sharing and joint efforts in maintaining peace and security.

On his part, Col Kayemba pledged to build on the existing achievements by strengthening civil-military relations and ensuring that the brigade remains mission-ready and committed to serving the people.

Meanwhile, 403 Brigade based in Matany Town Council, Napak District, also held a separate command handover ceremony.

During the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel M.S. Taika, the outgoing Caretaker Commander, handed over the office to Lieutenant Colonel William Achungwire, the incoming Brigade Commander.

The function was presided over by the 3 Infantry Division Deputy Commander, Colonel Winston Mugarura, who represented the Division Commander.

Col Mugarura commended Lt Col Taika for his service and wished Lt Col Achungwire success in his new appointment. Lt Col Taika will proceed to take command of 37 Battalion.

The ceremonies were attended by UPDF officers and personnel, alongside members of the civilian community from Aturai Village and Okoboi Sub-county.
