Honouring UPDF Non-Commissioned Officers For Unwavering Service

Maj Gen Dr Lucky Joseph Kidega, Commander of the Joint Staff Brigade of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), commended Non-Commissioned Officers for their years of dedication, which he noted have played a crucial role in Uganda’s stability and development.

“Well done, comrades,” he expressed. “Your tireless efforts toward the development of this nation and the achievements so far are evident and justifiable. Though you are discharged from active service, you are by no means tired of serving your country in other capacities. Thank you for adding value to the transformation of the UPDF and the nation as a whole.”

Maj Gen Kidega made these remarks during the official retirement ceremony of 175 Non-Commissioned Officers at Land Force Headquarters in Bombo.

He encouraged the retirees to remain disciplined, law-abiding citizens and to uphold the UPDF’s tradition of civil-military relations. “I urge you to evolve and employ our historical ideology of civil-military cooperation with wanainchi, especially civil leaders.”

Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Luwero, Richard Bwabye, advised the retirees to embrace their new roles in civilian life. “Take time to understand the dynamics in our local societies. Adjust to the world of civilians, where many opportunities are awaiting you,” Bwabye said.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Warrant Officer Class One Byaruhanga expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership and reassured continued support from the retired officers serving as members of the reserve forces. He encouraged those remaining in service to uphold discipline and patriotism, emphasising their role in contributing to the country’s security.

The ceremony was attended by Generals, Senior and Junior Officers, community leaders, and family members.
