Deputy Commander Armoured Division Hails Scouting As A Foundation For Patriotism And Leadership

The Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division, Brigadier General Wilson Bagonza, has commended the Uganda Scouts Association for its role in instilling patriotism, discipline and leadership among young people.

He made the remarks during the closing ceremony of a four-day scouting camp held in Greater Masaka. The camp, organised by the Uganda Scouts Association from 16 to 19 July 2026, brought together over 1,000 pupils from various schools across the Greater Masaka region.

Representing the Commander of the Armoured Division, Brig Gen Bagonza thanked the President of the Republic of Uganda and Patron of the Uganda Scouts Association, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his continued support, guidance and leadership in promoting scouting in Uganda.

He said scouting equips young people with vital values and practical life skills, including patriotism, discipline, self-reliance, survival skills and teamwork.

Brig Gen Bagonza urged the pupils to embrace these values, noting that they would help them become successful, responsible and productive citizens.

He further observed that many accomplished leaders serving in government and other public institutions began their journeys as scouts, underscoring the lasting impact of the scouting movement.

The Chairperson of the Uganda Scouts Association, Mr Patrick Sseno, thanked President Museveni for his steadfast support to the scouting movement. He also expressed gratitude to the Armoured Division for providing security and other support throughout the camping activities.

Mr Sseno further commended the participating schools, teachers and pupils for their discipline and active participation, which contributed to the success of the camp.

The ceremony was attended by the Masaka District LC V Chairperson, the Kalungu District Education Officer, officials from the Uganda Scouts Association, and pupils from participating schools.
