Maj Gen Masiko Challenges Kisubi Students To Cultivate Patriotism And Pan-African Values

The Joint Staff Political Commissariat of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Major General Henry Masiko, has urged students of St Mary’s College Kisubi to embrace patriotism, discipline, unity and productivity as they prepare to contribute to Uganda’s national development.

Maj Gen Masiko made the call during a patriotism awareness session at the school, where he challenged the students to cultivate values that promote individual responsibility, national unity and collective progress.

“Patriotism comes from philosophy to prosperity,” he said.

Maj Gen Masiko highlighted Uganda’s contribution to Pan-Africanism, describing it as the spirit of Africa. He said greater economic integration among African countries could strengthen the continent through expanded markets, access to reliable information, and enhanced security and intelligence cooperation.

He urged the students to pursue education and personal transformation, noting that knowledge is essential in addressing national challenges and promoting sustainable development.

The Acting Director Defence Public Information, Colonel Chris Magezi, commended President and Commander-in-Chief Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for initiating patriotism awareness sessions aimed at raising the quality consciousness of Ugandans.

Col Magezi said an enlightened population would be better positioned to recognise and fulfil its potential in contributing to national development.

He also commended the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his service and commitment to the country.

“Due to his selflessness and zero tolerance for corruption, the CDF has achieved so much in a period of two and a half years as Chief of Defence Forces,” he said.

Col Magezi cited Proverbs 6:6–10, which cautions against laziness and encourages diligence, to emphasise the importance of hard work and personal responsibility.

He challenged the students to believe in themselves, identify their talents, develop their abilities and set clear personal goals.

The students were also encouraged to practise discipline in their daily lives, including maintaining healthy eating habits, exercising regularly and taking care of their physical well-being.

On personal conduct, Col Magezi urged the students to make informed decisions about their health and relationships, stressing the importance of HIV prevention and awareness among young people.

The week-long patriotism awareness programme, organised by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, brought together various stakeholders to engage students and teachers on patriotism, national values and their role in Uganda’s development.
