The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces 15 Marine Brigade has passed out 53 soldiers who completed training in Coxswain Level II and Maritine Basic Induction Coxswain Maritime Sustainment Base Ntokolo in Mayuge District. 22 graduated in Coxswain while 31 in Maritine Basic Induction Course.
“These shared resources with some neighbouring countries especially lakes and rivers pose a threat to the security of Uganda because they are routes for hostile forces to attack the country. Thanks to the UPDF Marine forces for ably protecting them to ensure peace in Uganda,” said Brig Gen Karugaba.
He added that these two courses enhanced UPDF capability as a professional force and noted that the marine force was a requirement for the UPDF to be able to protect the country’s water bodies, which account for about 15% of Uganda.
He encouraged the soldiers to approach all training with seriousness, highlighting the value of enhanced knowledge and skills in their military duties.
He underscored the multi-dimensional nature of the force, operating on land, air, and water, guided by the ideological principles that underpin UPDF professionalism.
The Commandant of the Marine Training School, Colonel David Kararira, described the two courses as essential for all marine personnel, equipping them with the skills necessary for effective duty performance.
Cpl Akantorana Denis emerged as the best overall student in Coxwain, Cpl Agaba Victor was the best in small boat handling and Pte Kyawe Collins was the best in navigation.
Present at the ceremony were the Combat Engineering Brigade Commander and Cantonment Commander Magamaga Barracks Brig Gen Richard Wakayinja, RDC Mayuge District Hajj Ramathan Walugembe, the Chairman-elect LCV Mayuge District Mr David Zijja, senior UPDF officers among others.
