UPDF Extends Humanitarian Support To Bilnyang Communities

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), through its Joint Task Force stationed in South Sudan, has provided clean tap water and free medical services to residents of Bilnyang.

This humanitarian effort was overseen by Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, the task force commander, and witnessed by Maj Benon Bamuhimbise, the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) officer.

Maj Bamuhimbise urged the local population to make full use of the clean water and medical care now available to them. “The community should feel free to use the medical services and clean water whenever in need,” he said, attributing the mission’s success to the solid rapport established between the UPDF and South Sudanese communities.

He praised the UPDF medical personnel for their commitment to duty and encouraged them to uphold professionalism and discipline while tending to civilians.

The UPDF medical team has successfully conducted several surgical operations, including procedures for goitre, hernia, and prostate conditions.

Maj Nicholas Mutatiina, the Brigade Intelligence Officer, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) for the unwavering support that continues to bring meaningful relief to South Sudanese civilians through access to healthcare and other essential services.

The deployment of UPDF forces to South Sudan came in response to a formal request by South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, seeking immediate assistance in stabilising the country following renewed outbreaks of conflict.
