UPDF, Somali Forces Engage Mubarak Residents On Security And Development

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) serving in Somalia under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM), alongside the Somali National Army (SNA) and local authorities, held a key engagement with residents and community elders in Mubarak, focusing on security, infrastructure, and community development.

The meeting, led by Battle Group 44 Commander Colonel Owiny Akena provided a platform for dialogue between security forces and the population.

Col Owiny Akena underscored the importance of cooperation between civilians and security forces, noting that sustainable peace in Mubarak and Darusalam depends on strong community support.

“Lasting peace cannot be achieved by the military alone. It requires the full support and cooperation of the community, especially in guiding the youth towards positive and productive activities,” Col Owiny said.

Addressing the issues of infrastructure he added, “We have already commenced efforts to unblock key canals, and this will be extended to other affected areas. Work on the road to Awdhegle is also progressing after earlier challenges were resolved.”

SNA Commander Sayidinur Ali praised the dedication and sacrifice of the UPDF contingent in maintaining security in the area.

“We commend the UPDF for their commitment and sacrifice in ensuring security in Mubarak. Their presence has brought stability and renewed confidence among the people,” said Sayidinur Ali.

Community elders commended the UPDF contingent for its role in liberating Mubarak and restoring hope for peace and prosperity. They highlighted the positive impact of recent humanitarian interventions, including aid distribution and medical outreach services, and appealed for continued support to reach more vulnerable populations.

The meeting was attended by senior and junior officers of both the UPDF and SNA.
