UPDF Land Force Hosts South Korean Defence Attaché

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Land Force has hosted the Republic of South Korea’s Defence Attaché to Uganda, Colonel Kim Seha, who paid a courtesy visit to the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo to strengthen military collaboration on defence and security.

The Chief of Staff – Land Force, Brigadier General Chris Bagonza, commended the South Korean government for its continued support to the UPDF, particularly in training and defence engagements.

Brig Gen Bagonza observed that a number of UPDF personnel have benefited from training opportunities in South Korean defence institutions.

“Over the years, our personnel have had the opportunity to train in South Korean defence colleges. However, we appeal for more slots,” he said.

He said that the UPDF is keen to deepen cooperation with South Korea beyond academic training, particularly in advanced technology, engineering, and logistics.

In his remarks, Col Kim praised the UPDF for its role in maintaining peace and stability both within Uganda and across the region. He highlighted Uganda’s contributions to peacekeeping missions in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan, noting that these efforts are widely recognised internationally.

Col Kim expressed South Korea’s willingness to share its advanced military technology and expertise with partner forces such as the UPDF.
“We highly recommend Uganda’s participation in the upcoming Korean Expo to explore a wide range of defence exhibitions,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Edward Mutawe, Director of Human Resource Management; Lieutenant Colonel Peter Atuhairwe, Director of Counter Intelligence at Land Forces; and Lieutenant Colonel Rolland Bwebare, Military Assistant to the Chief of Staff Land Forces, among other officers.
