The Deputy Commander Land Force, Major General Francis Takirwa presided over the handover/takeover of office of the Commander 5 Infantry Division. The function saw Brigadier General Keith Katungi assume command of office from Brigadier General William Beinomugisha.
Maj Gen Takirwa in his remarks said that this is a healthy process and he urged officers to always look forward to handing over and taking over in their careers. He thanked the outgoing commander for ensuring the safety of the instruments of office under his command which will be used by the new commander.
The Incoming commander, Brig Gen Katungi called for support and teamwork from his subordinates and urged officer to fight hard against the tendencies of desertion.
Brig Gen Katungi cautioned officers and militants to live within their means and avoid getting loans that put financial pressure on them.
The outgoing commander, Brig Gen Beinomugusha said he is handing over to a commander who is focused on doing good for the benefit of future generations.
Brigadier General Keith Katungi boasts of a wealth of experience in various command positions both in the UPDF and foreign engagements.
Until his recent appointment, he served as the UPDF Contingent Commander in Somalia where he played an instrumental role in securing the Presidential Elections. He equally played an important role in the capture of Bondere and Yaqshid districts when he first served in Somalia in 2010-2011. Also served as the Commander, of the United Nations Guard Unit in Somalia and Commandant of the Military Police Brigade.
