5 Infantry Division Welcomes New Deputy Division Commander

The 5 Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has welcomed Colonel Gai Fraser Mpadwa as its new Deputy Division Commander, replacing Col David Opeero, who has been transferred to the Mountain Division to continue serving in the same role.

The handover and takeover ceremony was presided over by the Division Commander, Major General Keith Katungi.

Maj Gen Katungi commended Col Opeero for his professionalism, dedication, and contribution to the Division’s operational success.

In his farewell address, Col Opeero thanked the Division Commander, commanders, and staff officers for fostering a supportive command environment.

Col Mpadwa expressed gratitude to Maj Gen Katungi for his mentorship and the opportunity to serve under his command. He pledged to continue the work of his predecessor and ensure the Division’s mission is executed effectively.

The function was attended by brigade and battalion commanders, staff officers, and regional political leaders.
