Maj Gen Kulayigye Urges Military Police To Exercise Patience And Professionalism

The Director Defence Public Information, Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye, has advised Military Police officers to remain calm and composed when dealing with operational challenges, stressing that anger can compromise professionalism and public trust.

Speaking to troops undergoing a Team Leaders’ Course at Buyala Nsujju Mporwe Barracks in Mpigi District, Maj Gen Kulayigye emphasised that effective crisis communication and media response demand a well-informed and measured approach.

He noted that gathering accurate information before making public statements helps prevent institutional damage and protects the army’s reputation.

“As a professional force, we must ensure clarity and accuracy in communication to safeguard national security and strengthen public confidence,” he said.

Maj Gen Kulayigye observed that misinformation often spreads because many people do not take time to read official communications, urging officers to embrace continuous learning and knowledge-sharing as part of their duty.

He reminded them that only authorised Officers are mandated to speak on behalf of military formations.

“Not everyone is permitted to address the public,” Maj Gen Kulayigye cautioned.

“The relationship between the media and the military must be managed professionally.”

He urged the officers to exercise professionalism and tact when dealing with civilians, describing it as key to maintaining discipline and upholding the image of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.
