UPDF Inspires Patriotism and Discipline at Masaka Secondary School

Brigadier General Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has called on students at Masaka Secondary School to embrace patriotism, discipline, and physical fitness as key pillars for both personal growth and national development.

Addressing the students during the 17th edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Cup held in Masaka, Brig Gen Karemire emphasised the value of national pride and determination. “Patriotism is very important; love your country, love Uganda,” he told the students.

He further underscored the importance of self-discipline as a pathway to success. “As young students and youth, there are key things you need in order to excel. One of them is discipline; it is very important. If you maintain your discipline, the sky is the limit,” he said.

Brig Gen Karemire also encouraged participation in sports, citing its benefits for physical health, mental acuity, and social unity. “The main point is to promote games and sports so that we can remain fit, stay sharp in our minds, and enhance unity among ourselves,” he said, after donating sports balls to support the school’s athletics programme.

He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by both the school and the wider community. “The administration received us very well, and the students were also nice to us. This showed the deep love and friendship that we have built at Masaka Secondary School and in the greater Masaka area. We intend to maintain this friendship,” he added.

Masaka Secondary School head teacher, Mr Mukibi Ahmed, acknowledged the strong collaboration between the UPDF and the Masaka community, noting its positive influence on the students.

The event brought together students, school administrators, and UPDF officials in a shared celebration of unity, discipline, and patriotism.
