Eastern Africa Standby Force Concludes Cybersecurity Workshop In Kampala

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has wrapped up a five-day Cyber Security and Cyber Terrorism Awareness Workshop in Kampala, Uganda. The workshop focused on enhancing both regional and national capacities to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats.

Representing the Chief of Joint Staff of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), the Chief of Staff – Air Force, Brig Gen David Gonyi, commended the EASF for organising an “impactful program” that underscored cybersecurity as a national priority.

Brig Gen Gonyi highlighted how the digital era has reshaped society, noting that “today we can order, pay, and receive goods from the comfort of our homes.”

He emphasised that national security now goes beyond traditional defence, encompassing protection against terrorism, cyber threats, economic stability, and safeguarding political infrastructure.

“Cyber criminals operate across borders. Your readiness and discipline in training will determine how well Uganda confronts emerging threats,” he said.

Maj N. Faustin, the head of the EASF organising team, said the workshop had fostered strong collaboration between policymakers and professionals. “Your energy and commitment made this workshop productive and inspiring,” he remarked.

On behalf of the Participants, Captain H. Muhwezi described the training as transformational and urged his fellow participants to share the knowledge gained with colleagues and communities.

The workshop attracted participants from youth groups, law enforcement personnel, and other security stakeholders.
