UPDF Praised For Pacifying The Great Lakes Region

Uganda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Nimisha J. Madhvani, has commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for its pivotal role in fostering peace and stability in Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by Cohort 3 course members and staff from the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U) at the Ugandan High Commission in London, Ambassador Madhvani said,“Uganda has earned trust, support, and respect from the international community because of the role played by the UPDF not only within Uganda but also across the region in countries like Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan.”

She attributed this success to the visionary leadership of the President and Commander-in-Chief, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, noting that his foresight has helped build a strong, professional army.

Ambassador Madhvani expressed appreciation for the UPDF’s continued investment in human resource development through advanced training programmes, such as those offered at the NDC-U.

The Commandant of NDC-U, Maj Gen Francis Okello, described the college as the highest military training institution in the country, tasked with preparing senior military and government officers (from the rank of colonel and above) for strategic leadership roles.

The NDC-U Cohort 3 team is currently on a foreign study tour in London, during which they have visited the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS). These engagements will significantly enhance the academic and strategic understanding of the course participants.

Present at the High Commission were Brig Gen Kefa Nangeso, Dean of Studies at NDC-U; Brig Gen Kazahura, Senior Directing Staff – Air at NDC-U; Uganda’s Defence Attaché to the UK, Col Geoffrey Karugaba; Mr Guma Komwiswa and Ms Mariam Otengo, both consuls at the Ugandan High Commission in London.
