Maj Gen Okello Praises Uganda-UK Diplomatic Ties During NDC-U Study Tour In London

Major General Francis Okello, Commandant of Uganda’s National Defence College (NDC-U), has lauded the robust diplomatic relationship between Uganda and the United Kingdom, crediting it for deepening military cooperation.

The remarks came as he led the NDC-U’s third cohort on a study tour to the UK Ministry of Defence headquarters in London. “We chose the UK for this tour because of the strong diplomatic relations between our countries. This visit is a deliberate effort to maintain and strengthen those ties,” Maj Gen Okello said.

He praised a presentation delivered by UK defence officials, calling it “exceptionally good” and noting it would “contribute significantly to our analysis and final report.”

“This positive start is exactly what we hoped for,” he added.

Navy Captain Mariya Ingham, the UK Assistant Head – African Directorate/Affairs, welcomed the delegation, saying their choice of destination reflected the enduring partnership between the two nations.

“This partnership is important and should not be taken for granted,” she said, reaffirming Britain’s commitment to supporting African peacekeeping and military capacity-building.

The study tour forms a mandatory part of the NDC-U’s academic programme.
