Maj Gen Okello Calls for African Unity to Achieve Prosperity

The Commandant of the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U), Maj Gen Francis Okello, has emphasised the need for Africa to unite to achieve prosperity.

He made the remarks while meeting a delegation of 19 course members from the Algeria High War College, who paid a courtesy visit to NDC-U in Njeru, Buikwe District.

“As Africans, we must unite and work together to secure ourselves so that we can survive and prosper,” said Maj Gen Okello.

He underscored the importance of Africa’s three historical missions of Pan-Africanism, survival through strategic security, and prosperity for all as outlined by President and Commander-in-Chief, Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Maj Gen Okello noted that Uganda and Algeria share a long history of common struggles, including the fight against colonialism and religious extremism, which exemplify their strong Pan-African spirit.

He recalled Algeria’s significant role in solving African problems, especially in airlifting the first Ugandan troops to Somalia in 2007 to aid in the fight against terrorism.

The Head of Strategic Studies at the Algeria High War College, Brig Gen Ben Hamuda Rabar, who led the visiting delegation, emphasized the deep historical ties between Uganda and Algeria.

“Uganda and Algeria share the same umbilical cord due to their similar strategic mission of Pan-Africanism and their strong stance against global terrorism,” he remarked.

He added that their visit to Uganda, particularly NDC-U, would enhance their understanding and bilateral relations through academic exchange.

Also present at the meeting were Brig Gen Kefa Nangeso, Dean of Studies at NDC-U; Brig Gen Steven Kusasira, Head of Faculty for Security and Strategic Studies; Prof. Murindwa Rutanga, Head of Faculty for Postgraduate Studies; Brig Gen Johnson Nuwamanya, Head of Research; as well as directing staff, among others.
