WSACCO Breaks Ground On Commercial Complex In Arua City

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) yesterday launched the construction of a commercial complex in Arua City, aimed at bringing its services closer to its members. The complex will feature a dedicated space for the Arua branch, as well as commercial units available for rent to the public.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, the Resident District Commissioner of Arua City, Mr. Charles Ichogor commended the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his visionary leadership in professionalising the army and establishing the Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO). He expressed gratitude to the WSACCO leadership for selecting Arua City as the site for the investment, among other potential locations.

Mr. Ichogor noted that the arrival of Wazalendo SACCO in Arua coincides with a critical need for training and mentorship among local savings groups. He said Wazalendo SACCO will be a hub for knowledge sharing and capacity building, urging the Arua city leadership to facilitate partnerships between local SACCOs and Wazalendo, to enable them to adopt best practices in leadership and management to enhance their growth and development.

The Chief Executive Officer Wazalendo SACCO, Col Joseph Freddy Onata observed that the construction of the building in Arua City will shape the face of the city and create employment opportunities for members of the community who will be engaged in the construction and supply of materials. He emphasised that SACCOs are about numbers and the quality of services in terms of affordability and convenience.

Col Onata explained that the Arua City branch is a strategic move to strengthen WSACCO’s community ties and expand its services through increased savings and loan offerings. By locating the branch outside the military barracks, WSACCO aims to integrate with the community and facilitate collaboration with other SACCOs in the region, enabling them to learn from and share experiences with WSACCO more easily.

The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Lt Col Allan Kitanda, representing the Chairman Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, hailed the collaborative efforts of the Arua city leadership in expediting document processing and approving architectural plans. He commended the WSACCO management team for effectively executing the strategic plans set by the Board and driving progress towards achieving the organisation’s vision.

Additionally, Lt Col Kitanda announced WSACCO’s plan to expand its common bond, allowing select members of the public to engage in business with the SACCO.

The Commander 409 Infantry Brigade, Lt Col Nathan Bainomugisha who represented the Commander 4 Infantry Division, Brig Gen Felix Busizori, commended the WSACCO leadership for their strategic decision to acquire land and develop a commercial complex in Arua City Centre.
