Wazalendo’s Commitment To Troop Welfare Lauded

Maj Gen Don Nabasa, the Commander of the 3 Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has commended the Wazalendo leadership for prioritising soldiers’ welfare through strategic policies and investment options, aligning with the institutional strategic vision.

“I commend you for formulating effective policies and investment options to enhance soldiers’ welfare, as envisioned in the entrepreneurship and prosperity agenda,” Gen Nabasa said, addressing the Wazalendo Board of Directors (BoD) during their monitoring and evaluation exercise in Eastern Uganda.

Lt Col Allan Kitanda, the Vice Chairman BoD, emphasised the importance of feedback on loan services’ effectiveness, expressing satisfaction with the insights from 3 Division members on how loan products are being invested to improve their welfare and household incomes. Lt Col Kitanda thanked the leadership of 3 Division and UPDF for prioritising welfare matters.

The exercise also highlighted several exceptional project managers, including Col James Barigye Rukundo from Moroto, who successfully managed over 250 turkeys, and Staff Sergeant Lomoyang Joseph, also from Moroto, who runs a thriving 48-pig piggery.

Additionally, Col David Byaruhanga from Kotido was recognised for his impressive management of over 250 acres of sorghum, while Staff Sergeant Dhikusoka Musanoni from Soroti excelled in producing charcoal briquettes, school chalk, and books.

Furthermore, Ms Eilu Caroline from Soroti demonstrated exceptional skills in multiple areas, including apiary, goat farming, piggery, poultry, and block-making.
