The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has called on its officers and men to actively support the leadership in the fight against corruption, describing integrity as vital to safeguarding the institution.
The call was made by the UPDF designate Defence Attaché to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brig Gen Paddy Ankunda, while officiating at the closing ceremony of a two-week induction training for UPDF investigators and prosecutors at the Legal Training Centre (LTC), Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja City.
“It is your role to protect the institution by supporting the leadership to uproot the vice of corruption in the UPDF,” said Brig Gen Ankunda.
He emphasised that the training, initiated by strategic leadership, aimed to enhance the skills of legal personnel and improve the administration of justice within the force.
He urged the officers to uphold discipline and respect for human rights, grounding their conduct in the UPDF’s core values and ideological clarity. He cautioned against reckless lifestyles as it could compromise their health and effectiveness.
The acting Commandant of the Legal Training Centre, Maj Sam Wako Wambuzi, said the course marked the fourth intake conducted at the institution.
He observed that the collaboration between Defence Intelligence and Security and the LTC was deliberate, as effective justice delivery requires close coordination between investigators and prosecutors.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration at Headquarters Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability, Col Afayo, the LTC Legal Adviser, Mr Expedit Kaaya, representatives from sister schools and colleges within Jinja Cantonment, and directing staff from the Legal Training Centre, among others.
