UPDF Officers Complete Company Commanders Course

A total of 184 Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers completed a four-month Company Commander’s Course at the School of Infantry Bihanga (SOI-B) in Ibanda District.

While presiding over the graduation ceremony, the Joint Staff Policy and Strategy, Major General Don Nabasa, who represented the Commander of Land Forces said that the training reflects the Force’s commitment to human resource development, ensuring that the country is in capable hands.

“From what I have seen, it is clear that you have mastered the concepts. Go and perfect them in the field to safeguard our country,” he said.

He added that under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the UPDF has built the capacity to train a large number of officers and advance the professionalisation of the force.

He emphasised that the training equips commanders with confidence, courage, and resilience, preparing them to withstand challenging conditions.

“Stand firm and take up your role. The UPDF is counting on you to build strong bonds with your subordinate commanders and troops, rooted in our core values,” said Maj Gen Nabasa.

The Commandant of SOI-B, Brig Gen Godfrey Goloba, described the course as an intensive program designed to produce manoeuvrist commanders capable of commanding effectively.

He urged the officers to uphold the skills they have learned, lead their troops with courage, discipline, and excellence, and become exceptional leaders. He thanked the training team for their support in ensuring the success of the course.

Top performers in the course included Maj Alex Echeru (best overall student); Lt Francis Lwazzi (best in the field); Lt Charles Wandera, best in class; Capt Hellen Bunalema (best female student), among others.
