Commander of the Marines Brigade, Brig Gen Michael Nyarwa, has highlighted the role of rigorous training as essential to building the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) skilled workforce and ensuring operational readiness.
Addressing 53 newly qualified marines at their pass-out ceremony following a four-month Marine Basic Induction Course at Ntokolo Marine Training Base, Magamaga, Brig Gen Nyarwa praised the soldiers for their resilience and transformation into proficient marine operatives. “You have been equipped with techniques grounded in character, loyalty, discipline, and endurance. Now, your services are urgently needed to safeguard Uganda as mandated by law. Go and perform with commitment,” Brig Gen Nyarwa urged.
Lt Col Kararra, Commandant of the Marine Training School, explained that the course was designed to fill manpower gaps and prepare soldiers for marine combat operations, while also enhancing leadership skills and maritime capabilities.
Mayuge Resident District Commissioner, Thomas Matende, voiced confidence in the UPDF’s role in community protection, stating, “The unique skills displayed here assure us that the UPDF is capable and ready to safeguard our nation.”
