UPDF 3 Infantry Division Prioritises Training as Platoon Commanders Course Commences

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has reaffirmed its commitment to capacity building with the commencement of a Platoon Commanders Course (PCC) aimed at strengthening junior leadership within the force.

A total of 55 junior officers drawn from units under the Division begun the first intake of the four-month course at the Division Headquarters in Moroto Barracks.

While officiating at the opening of the course, the Division Commander, Maj Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma, described the Platoon Commanders Course as a core professional requirement for every junior officer’s career development.

“Discipline, patience, professionalism and integrity define a true leader. Wars and battles are won or lost at the platoon level.”

He urged the officers to uphold UPDF values, set exemplary standards of conduct and appreciate that leadership goes beyond rank, calling instead for firm military discipline and responsibility.

The 3 Infantry Division Operations and Training Officer (DOTO), Col Santurino Tumuranzye, reminded the participants that as platoon commanders they serve as the direct link between senior leadership and troops on the ground, and that their judgement, discipline and leadership significantly influence troop welfare and mission success.

The opening was attended by brigade commanders, the Division Administrative Officer, Col Richard Butungi, as well as senior and junior officers from affiliated units and the Division Headquarters.
