Strengthening Uganda’s Defenders: UPDF Emphasises Continuous Training For Mission Success

Major General Don William Nabasa, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division, has highlighted the vital role of continuous training to ensure troops are prepared for the complexities of mission execution.

Addressing the pass-out ceremony for 34 junior officers and 366 soldiers, who completed two months of intensive tactical training at the Division’s headquarters in Moroto Army Barracks, Maj Gen Nabasa urged the troops to apply their newly acquired skills to safeguard the nation.

He called on the troops to perform their duties with dedication, respect civil authorities, and strengthen ties with the local community, which he described as their “best allies” in advancing Uganda’s socio-economic progress.

 

Maj Gen Nabasa also reminded the troops of the importance of discipline, cautioning them against promiscuity and reckless behaviour.

 

Colonel Richard Obura Kidega, Commander of the 403 Brigade, encouraged training staff to provide every soldier with comprehensive training to ensure they are equipped to operate effectively in any situation and meet their objectives.

During the ceremony, three trainees received special awards: 2Lt Daran Olam as Best Overall, Private Lokiru Alfred as Best Ranger, and Private Aliganyira Hellen as Best Female Trainee.

In attendance were Ms Adupa Dinah Lorika, Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Moroto, Brigade Commanders, and representatives from Uganda Police Force(UPF), Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), Internal Security Organisation (ISO), among others.
