Senior Officers Gain Strategic Insight During UPDF Joint Services Workshop

A delegation of 70, including 52 student officers and directing staff from the Senior Command and Staff College – Kimaka (SCSC-K), led by Commandant Maj Gen George Igumba, visited the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Joint Services headquarters in Mbuya for a high-level study workshop aimed at strengthening their understanding of UPDF operations.

The officers, drawn from Uganda and allied East African Community nations, engaged in extensive presentations and discussions on regional peace and security at the Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters.

Maj Gen Igumba described the visit as a success, commending the knowledge shared during the workshop and reaffirming the college’s dedication to enhancing officers’ strategic and operational understanding. “We are grateful to the UPDF Joint Services and all the staff who offered their expertise. The visit has successfully met its objectives,” he said.

Representing the Chief of Joint Staff, Brig Gen James Kinalwa praised the college leadership for selecting the UPDF Joint Services as a hub of strategic military learning.

Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo, Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, addressed the delegation on Uganda’s resilience in the face of regional security challenges. He noted that “Uganda continues to experience economic and social growth, along with notable geopolitical transformation,” adding, “our stability is a key driver of this progress.”

Also present at the workshop were Brig Gen Charles Asingura and Brig Gen Fogat Bhupendra Singh, head of the Indian Military Advisory Training Team in Uganda, alongside senior officers, directing staff, and students from SCSC-Kimaka.
