President Museveni Applauded For Shaping UPDF Into Pillar Of National Stability

Brigadier General Michael Nyarwa, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Marine Brigade, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for transforming the army into a “peoples’ force” and a cornerstone of Uganda’s peace and stability.

Speaking at the pass-out of Intake 18/25 of the Maritime Basic Induction Course (MBIC) at the Marine Sustainment Base in Ntoloko, Mayuge District, Brig Gen Nyarwa credited the President’s consistent ideological, strategic, and technical leadership for strengthening the UPDF.

He hailed the graduating marines for their commitment to acquiring vital skills, including combat water survival, navigation, weapon handling, and political education, describing the training as both demanding and life-changing. “Today we are here to honour their commitment and success. The training you have undergone is not just about acquiring technical skills; it is about building character, fostering teamwork, loyalty, and discipline, and developing a deep respect for the marine environment,” he said.

“Each of you has demonstrated the ability to navigate not only our water bodies but also the challenges of rigorous military training.”

He urged the new marines to draw on their training to confront future challenges with confidence and resilience.

Colonel David Turigye Kararira, Commandant of the Marine Training School Kalangalo, praised Brig Gen Nyarwa’s vision and dedication to advancing marine training in Uganda. He also commended the instructors for their discipline and professionalism, which have elevated training standards.

Col Kararira encouraged the graduates to uphold the military values instilled during the course and remain physically fit and combat-ready. “More opportunities lie ahead, but they will only be available to those who are courageous, disciplined, committed, focused, and ambitious,” he said.

“Put the lessons of this course into action, guided by the UPDF’s ideological and political principles, so that you stand out as exemplary soldiers.”

The ceremony drew attendance from senior and junior UPDF officers, including Col Chris Kyanku, Commandant of the College of Logistics and Engineering; Col Swizen Mulindwa, Head of Capability Training and Doctrine; and Col Godfrey Abigaba, Commandant of the Defence General Depot, as well as district leaders, religious figures, and local residents.
