Military Police And Police Launch Joint Training To Bolster Public Order Management

The Brigade Operations and Training Officer (BOTO) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Military Police, Col JK Musene, has called on trainees at Nsujju Mporwe Buyala Barracks in Mpigi District to fully commit to the ongoing Public Order Management (POM) course to enhance their preparedness for operational deployment.

Col Musene made the remarks while launching the second phase of the training, which now includes officers from the Uganda Police Force’s Field Force Unit. He said their participation is aimed at deepening the trainees’ understanding of public order principles and strengthening collaboration between the two security agencies in managing civil disturbances. “Discipline is at the heart of Military Police operations. We will not tolerate indiscipline. Trainees who display unacceptable behaviour will be retained for remedial training,” Col Musene stated, underlining the Military Police’s role as the custodian of discipline in the armed forces.

He described the joint training with the Field Force Unit as a strategic move, noting the frequent collaboration between the Police and Military Police in handling public order challenges. The Police team, led by Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Mbonyebyombi, is delivering a two-week course focused on the lawful use of public order equipment, appropriate application of force, community engagement, and response to hostile situations.
Superintendent of Police Martin Odero, who oversees Field Force training, applauded the UPDF trainees for earning their place in the force. He explained that the course will cover key operational skills including equipment handling, control of public gatherings, TONFA drills, tactical hand throws, and coordinated manoeuvres.
