Maj Gen Sserunkuma Urges Officers To Prioritise Troop Welfare

The 4 Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma, has urged officers to prioritise the welfare and well-being of their soldiers to build confidence, trust and cohesion within their units.

Maj Gen Sserunkuma made the remarks while delivering a lecture of opportunity to officers undertaking the Platoon Commanders Course at the 4 Infantry Division Training School in Lugore, Gulu District.

He emphasised the importance of understanding and addressing factors that affect soldiers’ morale, noting that a motivated force is essential for commanders to effectively accomplish tactical missions.

Maj Gen Sserunkuma urged the trainees to uphold discipline, describing it as a key pillar of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) ethos.

“Maintain discipline as a commander, as your platoon will learn more from your conduct and actions than from your words,” he advised.

The Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Okech, said the course is designed to equip trainees with the leadership skills required to effectively command, control and administer platoons and companies.

He said the training combines military knowledge, tactical skills and ideological orientation and UPDF ethos.

The school is also conducting other training programmes, including special arms training for newly passed-out militants.
