Maj Gen Nabasa Urges Troops To Embrace Continuous Training For Career Success

Major General Don Nabasa, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division, has urged soldiers to prioritise ongoing and progressive training as essential for their military careers.

In a speech at the pass-out ceremony for over 600 soldiers at Moroto Army Barracks, Maj Gen Nabasa emphasised the vital role of training in preparing troops for both missions and career advancement. “I urge you to embrace continued training as it prepares you for missions and tasks in your military career,” he stated.

The Division Commander praised the graduates for their mastery of combat and technical skills, in line with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief. “I am impressed that you have now mastered how to fight and customise skills in accordance with the guidance of our Commander-in-Chief,” he said.

He also acknowledged the female combatants for their commitment, highlighting their importance in laying a solid foundation for career progression within the UPDF.

Maj Gen Nabasa further advised troops to maintain good health and warned against harmful behaviours, such as alcoholism and promiscuity, which could jeopardise both personal and professional lives.

Brigadier General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, Deputy Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, commended the training team, led by Lt Col Deus William Achungwire, for delivering a comprehensive programme that met the division’s operational needs.

Colonel James Barigye Rukundo, the Division’s Operations and Training Officer, expressed his gratitude to the leadership for their support and noted that the training had equipped the soldiers with skills to effectively tackle a range of challenges.

The ceremony recognised outstanding individuals, with Private Ononge Samuel awarded Best Overall, Private Baroda Alex named Best in Range, and Private Nabwire Catherine honoured as Best Female Trainee.

Senior military officers, including brigade commanders and staff, attended the event.
