Female Peacekeepers Urged To Harness Technology In Peace Operations

The Director Women Affairs of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Brig Gen Charity Bainababo, has urged female peacekeepers to harness technology and uphold accuracy in their work to strengthen peace support operations.

Brig Gen Bainababo made the remarks while delivering a lecture to participants from different countries attending the United Nations Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Academy for Peace Support Operations at the United Nations offices in Entebbe, Uganda.

Brig Gen Bainababo cautioned the participants against prioritising speed at the expense of accuracy, noting that errors in digital systems could have serious consequences for national security.

“You must not limit your capabilities. Set clear goals and priorities because there are many trained female officers across the globe who are counting on you to lead,” she said.

She commended the female peacekeepers for their commitment and dedication to serving their respective countries and encouraged them to remain courageous and focused in their assignments.

She encouraged the participants to promote a spirit of sisterhood, prioritise their safety, maintain positive working relationships and continue improving their professional capabilities.

The participants are drawn from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Costa Rica, Morocco, France, Namibia and The Gambia.

Military Police Personnel Challenged on Integrity

In a separate engagement, Brig Gen Bainababo called on Military Police personnel to uphold loyalty, integrity, impartiality and competence in the execution of their duties.

She made the remarks while delivering a lecture to personnel undertaking a refresher course at the Military Police Academy in Buyala.

Brig Gen Bainababo urged the personnel to maintain confidentiality, given the sensitive nature of their duties.

“You can’t enforce what you don’t understand,” she said.

She identified discipline as a core requirement for Military Police personnel and challenged them to maintain higher standards of conduct.

Brig Gen Bainababo further encouraged the personnel to build and maintain close relations with the Wananchi, noting that the UPDF’s mandate is centred on serving and protecting the people.
