Battle Group 45 Urged to Uphold Pro-People Army Ideology

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has called on trainees of Battle Group 45 to uphold the National Resistance Army (NRA) ideology of being a pro-people army.

The appeal was made by the Joint Staff Political Commissariat, Maj Gen Henry Masiko, while addressing the group at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) in Nakaseke. He emphasised sustaining the revolutionary values and traditions of the NRA and UPDF, noting that patriotism, security, and Pan-Africanism are pillars of Uganda’s progress.

Maj Gen Masiko urged the trainees to remain ideologically steadfast, highlighting the need for soldiers to live by the truth and follow the correct ideological, military, organisational, and economic lines. “We support what is right and oppose what is wrong. That is why the UPDF remains a strong force,” he said.

He also encouraged financial discipline, advising soldiers to embrace saving and investment in income-generating initiatives to support socio-economic transformation.

The Commandant of IPSO-TC, Col Moses Nabaasa, reminded the group to cultivate love for country and comradeship, while cautioning them against alcoholism, drug abuse, and other habits that could damage the force’s image.

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Lt Col Morris Twongeirwe Kyatoko, Second in Command of Battle Group 45, thanked UPDF leadership for providing ideological guidance that has positively transformed the soldiers’ outlook.

The function was attended by senior and junior officers of IPSO-TC, including the Chief Instructor, Col David Watasa.
