UPDF Fires Up Ibanda District

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) continues to undertake several civil-military activities like cleaning towns, establishing health outreach camps, sensitizing masses on the need for patriotism, and constructing new or refurbishing old infrastructure, among others, in Ibanda district.

This has brought both the military and civilian communities together as the army celebrates its birthday on 6th February to remember the sacrifices made by the founders of the Peoples’ Revolution.

Ibanda district residents continue to be mesmerized by the free giveaways like boda boda reflector jackets from UPDF that strengthen the existing cooperation between the army and the people. “We are obliged to the Government of Uganda and the UPDF family for devoting their time and choosing Ibanda district.

We recognize the part they play to keep us safe. We are grateful to the UPDF for reshaping its identity,” a shop attendant highlighted.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Drake Mukibi lauded UPDF for showing love to people from the grass root compared to past regimes.

The UPDF is on ground cleaning the community, interacting and communicating with the people,” said the RDC.

He noted that giving motorcyclists (boda bodas) reflector jackets has come at a time when the Ministry of Transport has issued a directive to cyclists on reflector jackets and helmets, to reduce road carnage.

He also applauded UPDF for using its own resources to support these activities, simply because they are a Peoples’ Army.

Mr. Deus Karugaba, the Deputy Mayor Ibanda Municipality commended the UPDF for a job well done.

He said that it is very important that UPDF give back to the community.

UPDF Engineers have also built a four-stance latrine at Bihanga Army Primary School, the two classroom blocks at Nyabuhikye Church Of Uganda (COU) Primary School, and elected a monument of Rutaraka, an anti-colonial resistance hero who resolutely rose to his patriotic calling and killed the cruel colonial agent Harry George Galt.

He too thanked UPDF for the solidarity with civilians as exhibited vigorous Defence Forces Week activities.

The Deputy Mayor also urged residents to keep the environment clean. “We have been lacking and these people have inspired us,” he concluded.
