Minister Mbadi Urges Public to Embrace Government Programs to Fight Poverty

The State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Hon. Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, has called on Ugandans to actively participate in government programs aimed at boosting productivity and eradicating poverty.

Speaking at the launch of Tarehe Sita activities in Lwengo District, Gen Mbadi encouraged citizens to engage in initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Program. He emphasised that economic empowerment reduces vulnerability to negative influences such as terrorism and civil unrest.

“If you have something to do, someone won’t persuade you to engage in terrorism and riots,” Gen Mbadi said, urging the public to work together for national development and maintain discipline.

The minister commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his visionary leadership in building a formidable and constitutional military force.

He praised the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for upholding discipline and professionalism, which the public continues to recognise and assured the people of Uganda that the UPDF remains steadfast in ensuring national security and protecting citizens and their property.

Similarly, Lwengo Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Cissy Namuju, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for ushering in stability. She applauded the UPDF for its role in Uganda’s liberation and its continued commitment to serving the people.

Lwengo Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Emmy Katera, lauded the UPDF’s professionalism, crediting its leadership for nurturing a capable and resourceful force.

The event was attended by senior military officials, including Deputy Commander Land Forces, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, Deputy Joint Staff Human Resource Management, Brig Gen Chris Bagonza, as well as area Members of Parliament, religious leaders, and the local community.
