Hon. Rwamirama Hails Lyantonde Residents for Supporting NRA/UPDF During Liberation Struggle

The State Minister for Animal Industry, Hon Lt Col (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama, has commended the people of Lyantonde for their significant role in supporting the National Resistance Army/Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) during the liberation war that brought stability and development to the country.

Hon. Rwamirama made these remarks while officiating the district launch of the Tarehe Sita activities in Kicwamba Parish, Lyakajjura Sub-county, Lyantonde District.

“I want us to maintain our good relationship with civilians for the role you played in liberating the country, which ushered in the development you see today,” Hon. Rwamirama said.

The minister praised the UPDF for their discipline and cooperation, adding that the local community appreciates their efforts.

He urged residents to actively engage in and support government programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, which aim to improve their welfare.

Hon. Kemirembe Pollin, the Lyantonde Woman Member of Parliament, praised President Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, for mentoring a professional army.

“Unlike in the past when people would run away upon seeing soldiers, today we witness high levels of respect and discipline among them. I wish all departments operated like the UPDF,” Hon. Kemirembe remarked.

The Lyantonde Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Asaba David Nkojo applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for leading the guerrilla war that liberated Uganda.

He thanked the UPDF for providing services such as free medical care and school construction, which have benefited the local community. He emphasised that UPDF’s efforts have brought peace and stability, contributing to socio-economic transformation.

The Lyantonde District UPDF Coordinator for Tarehe Sita activities, Lt Col Godfrey Mwesigye, highlighted the significance of the Tarehe Sita week and the history of the National Resistance Army (NRA).

He commended local leaders and residents for their cooperation in preparing for the celebrations and urged them to maintain their strong relationship with the UPDF.
