The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) joined over 35 government ministries, departments, and agencies in a spirited week-long sports gala held at Makerere University in the lead-up to the 14th Africa Public Service Day.
Running from Friday, 27 June to Thursday, 4 July, the gala featured competitions in football, netball, volleyball, and athletics. It brought together civil servants in a celebration of teamwork, fitness, and the ethos of public service.
Ms Aluso emphasised that the event was as much about connection as it was about competition. “Let this gala be a reminder that sport is not just about competing, but also about networking and building meaningful partnerships and teamwork among public servants,” she added.
MODVA’s football team impressed with three wins and a draw in the group stages, advancing to the semi-finals before bowing out. The volleyball team reached the quarterfinals, while the netball team exited during the group phase after a challenging draw.
He also extended appreciation to MODVA leadership for its unwavering logistical and moral support.
The Africa Public Service Day sports gala is a cornerstone of the wider week-long celebration, promoting wellness, camaraderie, and closer engagement among public servants and the communities they serve.
