UPDF Thwarts Cattle Theft And Recovers Livestock In Kitgum

At approximately 2:00 a.m. today, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) conducted a decisive operation in Akilok South Village, Okuti Parish, Orom East Sub-County, Chua County, Kitgum District, foiling an attempted cattle theft.

Troops from the 75 Infantry Battalion of the 505 Infantry Brigade intercepted two armed Jie warriors suspected of stealing two cows from a local resident, Mr Otema Bosco.

During the operation, one suspect was neutralised, and the stolen cattle were successfully returned to their owner.

Colonel Patrick Opira, Commander of the 505 Infantry Brigade, praised the troops’ swift response and issued a stern warning to cattle raiders. “The UPDF remains committed to ensuring the safety of people and their property,” he stated, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

Earlier this month, UPDF operations in the region also led to the recovery of 98 goats and 13 cows stolen by raiders, with all livestock returned to their rightful owners. These efforts underline the army’s dedication to combating livestock theft and maintaining security in the area.

Col Opira reiterated that those involved in cattle theft would face justice under the Ugandan Constitution. He called on the local community to stay vigilant and cooperate with security forces to promote peace and stability.
