UPDF Logistics Officers Cautioned Against Corruption And Mismanagement

Logistics officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have been urged to avoid corrupt practices and mismanagement of logistics while performing their duties.

This caution was issued today after a three-day retreat for logisticians at the College of Logistics and Engineering in Magamaga.

Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, the General Officer Commanding Reserve Force, representing the Chief of Defence Forces, emphasised that UPDF resources should not be viewed as a means of personal survival but rather focused on maintaining the prevailing peace. “The Commander-in-Chief has always warned us against mismanagement of logistics and fuel. As logisticians, we must address his concerns by managing logistics properly and stop the wrong mindset of getting rich quickly by desisting from all corrupt tendencies,” said Lt Gen Otema.

He reminded the officers that effective planning and management of logistics are crucial for the seamless execution of all UPDF operations.

The Joint Staff – Logistics Brig Gen Godwin Karugaba, said that the retreat which was organised under the theme; “Achieving self-sustainment through logistics and engineering strategic planning,” aimed to critique, review, and develop tactical logistics and fuel management strategies with suitable control measures in UPDF.

The event brought together Principal Staff Officers – Logistics from divisions and logistics officers from formations equivalent to divisions.
