Retired Soldiers Urged To Champion National Development

Brig Gen Charles Byanyima, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division, has encouraged retired soldiers to remain active contributors to national development by supporting government initiatives.

He advised them to focus on fostering unity within their communities and to avoid involvement in divisive political activities.

While presiding over the send-off ceremony for Non-Commissioned Officers in Nakasongola, Brig Gen Byanyima urged them to manage their retirement benefits responsibly, engage positively with their communities, and respect leaders at all levels to promote unity and collaboration.

Col David Mugisha, the Cantonment Commander, expressed gratitude for the retired soldiers’ service and reminded them of the importance of cherishing their well-being, as they have been fortunate to complete their duties safely.

He encouraged them to continue caring for their families responsibly and to build positive relationships with civilians, emphasising that collaboration with the community is essential for mutual success and harmony.

Lt (Rtd) Saleh Kamba, the Resident District Commissioner of Nakasongola, reminded the retired officers that they are “retired, not tired.”

He emphasised that their connection with the government continues, as they will remain valued citizens. He encouraged them to stay engaged in government projects, noting that learning is a lifelong process and their experience is a valuable asset to national progress.

The event was attended by Isabaruuli Constantine Mwogezi Butamanya, district leaders, senior and junior officers, among others.
