Mountain Division Hails Soldiers For Pivotal Role In Regional Security

The Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Mountain Division, Colonel Paul Muwonge has hailed soldiers whose dedication and courage left an enduring impact on Uganda and the region particularly their efforts in stabilising the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and surrounding areas, recognising their role as steadfast protectors of peace.

He said, “Your unwavering commitment, resilience, and significant sacrifices in stabilizing the country, especially the Democratic Republic of Congo and the surrounding region, will forever be inscribed in our history,” describing their contribution to regional security, notably during Operation Shujaa, as pivotal.

Col Muwonge, who represented the Division Commander, made the remarks during the send-off ceremony of 24 Non-Commissioned Officers from the Mountain Division that was held today at Muhoti Barracks in Fort Portal, Kabarole District.

Col Muwonge congratulated the retirees as they embarked on a “well-deserved new chapter,” encouraging them to pursue their passions with renewed vigour, cherish time with family, and enjoy the rewards of their dedicated service. He emphasised that their wealth of experience and expertise would remain invaluable assets to the nation.

He extended gratitude to the families of the soldiers, whose support he said, “has been the cornerstone of our success.”

The senior most retiree, Warrant Officer Class One Kayanja John, who has served 40 years in the UPDF, having joined the army in 1984 as a teenager aged 13, thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief for his guidance to them during their time in service.

The function was attended by Senior and Junior Officers, community leaders, and family members, among others.
