Brig Gen Daniel Kakono, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Artillery Division, praised the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) for their commitment to serving the nation during times of minimal pay for servicemen.
At an official send-off ceremony for NCOs held at the Masindi headquarters today, Brig Gen Kakono emphasised that retirement is an unavoidable aspect of military life. He urged all service members to recognise the importance of planning for their future after service. “Be cautious with your retirement package,” he advised, encouraging the retirees to thoroughly assess their options before making any investments. “Remember, this money has been earned through your own sweat and blood, so plan and utilise your money consciously.”
He also reminded the retirees of their role in their new communities, stating, “You will be approached and invited to share experiences and knowledge. Please use the leadership skills that you have gained in the army to guide civilians towards the continued development of this country.”
While acknowledging their contributions to the military, Brig Gen Kakono reassured the retirees that they remain part of the UPDF family. He encouraged them to seek support at any nearby army facility, affirming that these services will always be available to them.
The ceremony was attended by senior and junior officers, soldiers, and family members.
