Commander Air Force Warns Retirees Over Sharks

Retiring officers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces – Air Force (UPDF – AF) have today been urged to guard themselves against the looming sharks only waiting to devour their retirement package.

 

This remark was made by the Commander Air Force Lt Gen Charles Okidi during a dinner at Air Force headquarters, in Entebbe.

 

“It’s our Air Force culture to send off our retirees because their service is worth recognizing,” said Lt Gen Okidi.

 

He saluted retirees for the dedicated service they rendered to their motherland having served in various positions of leadership and command.

 

The UPDF Air Force Commander also advised them to prepare and plan for a decent transformation into civilian life, urging them to be careful and mindful of life outside the military.

 

He concluded by wishing them a fruitful retirement and thanked their spouses/ families for always standing with them.

 

One of the retiring General officers, Brig Gen Kwehangana, announced that he is retiring from an institution he served for 50 years having joined in 1973.

 

He thanked the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs for creating a conducive environment for UPDF to carefully execute its duties and responsibilities.

 

“Often when you think you are at the end of something, you are at the beginning of something. We are never too old to start something new,” he observed.

 

The Entebbe Deputy RDC Ms Jacqueline Kankunda thanked the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF H.E Gen YK Museveni for building an army anchored on discipline and ideological clarity.

 

He commended the Air Force for continuously standing with the Entebbe community whenever called upon.

 

The retired officers included Brig Kaija Atwooki, Maj Henry Nkalubo, and Maj Paddy, among others.

 

The function was also attended by UPDF Senior and Junior Officers serving at UPDF – AF headquarters in Entebbe.
