Be Ambassadors Of Army Values In Civilian Life, UPDF Retirees Urged

The Deputy Division Commander for the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 1 Infantry Division, Col Winston Mugarura, has urged retired soldiers to serve as ambassadors for the army as they transition into civilian life.

This appeal was made during a retirement ceremony at Division One Headquarters in Kakiri, where 133 soldiers concluded their active service.

Col Mugarura, representing the Division Commander, expressed heartfelt thanks to the retirees for their service, dedication, and sacrifice. He highlighted that the valuable experiences gained in the army would greatly benefit them in retirement. He also encouraged them to engage in government programmes, such as the Parish Development Model, to enhance their lives and wellbeing.

Division Administration Officer Col Emma Muhoozi praised the retirees for their exceptional careers and contributions to the nation, congratulating them on successfully completing their service. He urged them to embody the values instilled during their military tenure, sharing their stories, mentoring others, and exemplifying the discipline characteristic of the UPDF.

Col Muhoozi also reminded the retirees to maintain their physical fitness and be prepared to serve their nation again if called upon.

Local LC 1 Chairman Kiguli Joseph welcomed the retirees into civilian life, urging them to be exemplary citizens. He advised them to manage their retirement funds wisely for personal development and to continue upholding the law, just as they did while serving in the army.

Senior Retiree Warrant Officer Class One Vita Paskari echoed the call for discipline among fellow retirees, urging them to participate in government programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to improve their lives.

The event celebrated the retirement of 133 non-commissioned officers and was attended by senior and junior officers, community leaders, members of the public, and family members of the retirees.
