The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) will hold the Second Edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Interforces Drill Competition at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds from 22nd to 25th August 2026 under the theme “Precision, Discipline and Cohesion: Pillars of National Resilience and Trans-formation.”
Building on the success of the inaugural edition in May 2025, where sixteen teams participated and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) emerged overall winner, this year’s competition expands to fea-ture over 40 teams and more than 1,400 participants drawn from all UPDF branches and services. Jun-ior, senior, and warrant officers, together with other ranks, will showcase sword and crop stick drills, pace sticks, cane sticks, and foot drills. Five top teams will also perform Freestyle Drill Displays, blend-ing Ugandan cultural heritage with military tradition to highlight the UPDF’s identity.
Therefore, this edition not only presents the traditional individual and team drill routines but also in-troduces creative elements such as, theme based drills, formation changes, synchronized displays, mu-sic integration, storytelling, and dance elements. Through these innovations, the competition seeks to promote excellence and precision in military drill, enhance operational readiness and esprit de corps, strengthen cooperation and friendship among branches and units, and showcase the Force’s enduring traditions and values. Overall, the competition aims to foster discipline, ingenuity, creativity, and teamwork among UPDF personnel while celebrating the Force’s rich heritage.
The Grand Finale on 25th August 2026 will be officiated by the Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Awards will be presented for Best Drill Team, Best Drill Commander, and special recognition for innovation and cultural integration.
This event is more than a display of military precision; it is a celebration of national pride, sovereignty, and the UPDF’s unwavering dedication to the Ugandan people. The UPDF invites the public and me-dia to attend and support the competition, which will strengthen bonds within the Force and deepen ties with the communities it serves.
