Gen Kainerugaba Lays Wreath At Late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s Tomb

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, laid a wreath on the tomb of the late Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat in Cairo.

The CDF paid tribute to the former Egyptian leader at the Unknown Soldier Memorial, a pyramid-shaped monument in Nasr City, Cairo.

The memorial’s construction was initiated by President Anwar Sadat in 1974 in honour of soldiers who lost their lives in the 1973 October War, and it was inaugurated in October 1975. The site was later chosen as the president’s final resting place after his assassination in October 1981.

Gen Kainerugaba was welcomed to the site by senior Egyptian military officials, who explained the significance of the memorial.

Each year, the Egyptian president pays tribute at the site as part of the activities marking Egyptian Victory Day.

The wreath-laying ceremony is a symbol of respect and solidarity. Gen Kainerugaba, who concluded his visit to Egypt on Thursday, held several meetings, including one with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. He also met the Chief of Defence Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces and other top military leaders.
