UPDF Air Force Passes Out 33 Personnel In Air Defence Operations Course

A total of 33 personnel from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Air Force have completed the Air Defence Operations Officers Course at the Air Operations and Command Centre (AOCC), Entebbe.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Commandant of the Air Force College, Brigadier General Allan Kalanzi underscored the central role of training in military effectiveness and operational success.

“In the military, training is one of the most important activities after operations. Its ultimate aim is to prepare individuals and units for success in operations,” Brig Gen Kalanzi said.

He urged the officers to remain disciplined, professional and focused in their duties, and cautioned them against corruption and what he described as “allowance nomadism.”

Brig Gen Kalanzi further said the Air Force remains committed to strengthening its operational readiness through capacity building, while leadership continues to address challenges related to infrastructure, human resource, and personnel welfare.

The Commander AOCC, Lt Col Benon Byakureme described the course as an important step in the professional development of personnel and a key contribution towards strengthening the Air Force’s air defence capability.

“This course reflects the commitment of both the trainees and the institution to excellence in operational readiness. The officers have been prepared to operate within the complex air defence and AOCC environment,” Lt Col Byakureme said.

He noted that the transformation of the trainees was a testament to disciplined training, teamwork, and professional dedication, adding that the AOCC continues to play a central role in enhancing airspace surveillance and command and control.

The outstanding performers included Maj Richard Tayebwa, who was recognised for best leadership; Lt Vincent Abitegeka, awarded best team player; Sgt Byaruhanga Godfrey, named best overall student in theory and practicals; and Pte Kinyeera Moses, who excelled in practical/system operations.

The pass-out ceremony was attended by the Director Human Resource Air Force, Brig Gen Richard Rubongoya, DHRM-SFC, Col Mango Baraza, as well as the Deputy Commander Personnel and Administration Air Force and Commander AOCC, Lt Col Benon Byakureme, among other junior and senior officers, serving airmen, and retired officers.
