A five-day retreat for Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) opened on Monday at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, bringing together key stakeholders to chart strategies for accelerating Uganda’s economic growth and development.
Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Brigadier General Godfrey Muwanguzi, Deputy Chief Coordinator of OWC, delivered the opening presentation titled “The Past, Present, and Future of OWC.” He traced the organisation’s journey since its inception, linking it to the 2004 Defence White Paper which highlighted not only military but also non-military threats to national security such as poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity, challenges that OWC continues to address.
Brig Gen Muwanguzi outlined OWC’s operational phases, beginning with Initiation (Deployment, Mobilisation, and Sensitisation), followed by Stabilisation, Consolidation, and ultimately Handover and Exit.
The retreat aims to strengthen service delivery, advance wealth creation programmes, and foster collaboration among staff and partners. Strategic planning, teamwork and addressing implementation challenges are high on the agenda, with the gathering expected to set a new pace for Uganda’s economic transformation.
