Commander Of Operation Shujaa Vows Strong Security For Ugandans And Congolese During The Festive Season

Maj Gen Richard Otto, Commander of Operation Shujaa, has assured both Ugandans and Congolese of enhanced security throughout the festive season, covering Christmas and New Year.

During a recent tour of the operation’s area, Maj Gen Otto reaffirmed the commitment of the joint Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to safeguarding citizens during the 2024/25 festive period. He highlighted that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) insurgents had been severely weakened after three years of coordinated military operations.

Despite these gains, Maj Gen Otto warned that the ADF still represents a potential threat and urged the public to stay vigilant. “The ADF is weakened, but this is the time for you to be more vigilant. The enemy may want to spoil our festive season with a terror attack, so be on the lookout,” he said.

Addressing troops in the field, Maj Gen Otto stressed the importance of constant vigilance. “Our enemies don’t have holidays, no weekends, no New Year celebrations. There is no way we are going to have holidays ourselves. We must protect the Wananchi so they can enjoy the festive period,” he added.

Maj Gen Otto also commended the resilience and determination of the joint forces, who have helped restore peace in several areas under Operation Shujaa. He encouraged the troops to continue their efforts in completely neutralising the ADF and securing lasting peace for the region.

During his visit, Maj Gen Otto toured various locations under the control of the joint forces, including Katebei, Ndalya, Mambelenge, Otonaber, Mahala, and Ndimo.
