In A Multipolar World, Africa Can Voice Its Concerns In International Fora – General Kainerugaba

The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, stated that in a multipolar world, Africa can now voice its concerns in international fora. He noted that Africa has been treated unfairly, and its issues have not been appropriately discussed, as Western states have been exploiting the continent rather than addressing its issues.

“When there are many superpowers, no single State can dominate the affairs of the World and usurp the powers of others. Multipolarity should usher in an equal world with equal opportunities, which gives other nations the power to bargain issues of International concern; this is what Africa needs,” said Gen Kainerugaba.

The CDF made the remarks while delivering a lecture on “Strategic Security and Interests” to course members of cohort 02 at the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC – U) in Njeru. He observed that Africa needs to be organised through meaningful unity and solidarity to have a reliable capacity to defend itself, industrialise, build infrastructure, and have a healthy human resource to attain strategic strength.

Gen Kainerugaba suggested that the best way to prevent future world wars is through solidarity and by empowering Africa, as well as including the Global South, which can be achieved by forming and strengthening economic blocs such as BRICS, emerging as a champion of the Global South. He applauded the course members for upgrading their knowledge by attending NDC-U, the highest-level course in the military.

The Commandant NDC-U, Maj Gen Francis Okello, informed the CDF that the course, which focuses on National Security Studies, Policy formulation and implementation, Strategic Management, and Research, is in its final stages as they prepare to graduate soon.

NDC-U, the highest institution of military learning, is conducting its Second Intake, which commenced on 02 June 2023 and comprises 21 members, one of whom is a public servant at the level of a Commissioner.
