Dr. Liban Asuman Calls For Extra Vigilance Against Al-Shabaab During Ramadan

The Barawe District Commissioner, Dr. Liban Asuman has cautioned the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the Somali National Army (SNA) to be extra vigilant against Al-Shabaab extremists, during the forthcoming month of Ramadan.

The caution was made at a security meeting held at Uganda Battle Group XXXV (UGABAG 35) Headquarters, Embrasso in Somalia. “Our credible intelligence sources reveal that extremists are preparing to cause havoc to our people, collect taxes from Embresso community in order to support their operations since the government froze their Bank Accounts,” said Dr. Liban. He promised to mobilize and engage local leaders and business communities to shun Al-Shabaab and report any suspected extremists to relevant authorities.

The Battle Group 35 Commander, Col Bernard Kasemeza appreciated the selfless support given by the people of Barawe who have joined hands to fight enemies of peace in Somalia. “The relative peace and security prevailing in the sector has been achieved by a concerted effort of all peace-loving Somalis in support with ATMIS. Every Somali must guard the relative peace and security jealously. As ATMIS, we are here to support you in this justified cause,” implored Col Kasemeza.

Present in the meeting were Col Christopher Berochan the ATMIS Battle Group 38 Commander, Capt Mohamed Ali, the SNA Second in command of 25th Battalion, Inspector of Police Abdikadir Aden Mohammed OC Barawe Police Station and commanders from both sister forces.
