Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Hosts Another Meeting In Preparation For Late Gen Aronda Memorial Events

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, chaired an implementation committee meeting on Wednesday afternoon to prepare for ‘The Hon Gen Aronda Nyakairima Memorial Events’.

The events, slated to take place from September 10th to 12th at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo, will include the first-ever Kampala Defence and Security Expo, a Memorial Lecture where the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen YK Museveni, will be a keynote speaker, and thanksgiving prayers.

The Wednesday meeting at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe was attended by senior military officials and top Ministry of Defence officials.

The meeting follows other meetings, starting with the initial steering committee meeting held in July. Some of the committee members included SFC Commander Maj Gen BD Mugisha, Maj Gen James Birungi – Defence Intelligence and Security chief, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba – Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen (Rtd) Innocent Oula, among other senior UPDF officers.

Gen Nyakairima, who passed away in 2015, is fondly remembered for his role in defeating insurgency groups, including LRA, Karamoja cattle rustlers, among others. He served as the Chief of Defence Forces from 2003 to 2013 and was the Minister of Internal Affairs at the time of his death.
